Dr. Carrie Turnbull didn't always dream of being a veterinarian. When she set off for college her dream was to be a professional cellist. It wasn't until the summer between her junior and senior year that she changed courses. It was during a stay at her older brother's house that summer that she truly discovered how much she loved animals.
Did you know that at least 60% of dogs and cats have dental disease? Not only does dental disease make your dog or cat's breath smell bad, but it also can affect their overall health. Infection in the mouth can travel to other organs and cause infections in the kidneys, liver and heart. If you notice any of the above, you should schedule an exam for one of our veterinarians to check out that mouth!
Radiographs (or x-rays) can be a very useful diagnostic tool when your pet is injured or sick. At Staunton River Vet Clinic we offer digital radiology. There are various reasons why we may recommend radiographs be taken on your dog, cat or pig. Look for evidence of something stuck in the stomach or intestines if there is vomiting and diarrhea. If you feel that your pet may be sick or injured, please contact our office at (540) 297-1000 to schedule your appointment today!
Our Class IV Deep Tissue Laser uses a beam of laser light to penetrate tissue without damaging it. The energy from the laser beam causes a response in the tissue called "photo-bio-modulation". This response leads to the reduced pain, inflammation and the increased healing speed. The laser therapy treatment is done with a hand-held device that may cause a slight warming sensation in the area it is treating.

Just wanted to thank Aymarie of SRVC for her wonderful help in the puppy training class. We have 2 new pups and these classes gave us a ton of tools to use in many areas of future training endeavors. Not sure Aymarie realized she would be training the owners as much as the pups. Her patience level is amazing and something we will continue to work towards. if you have a new pup we highly recommend getting them enrolled in these classes. Believe us it will be very beneficial to you and your pup.
Thanks again Aymarie, all your work is greatly appreciated.

I began feeding a stray kitten almost 2 years ago and when I decided to bring him inside, I contacted Staunton River Veterinary Clinic to use the mobile van since little Mosby was still not very calm with anyone but me. They were awesome then and just had his annual visit in the van this year and the doc and assistant were amazing and he was very good and understood they were helping him and gave them no trouble whatsoever! I am more than happy and pleased with the vets and the assistant who have served out needs over the last year or so.

I am completely traumatized by vets now thanks to this place. My sister had to take her very loved dog (whiskey) in for a exam because he couldn't pee and was acting strange. So when we got there they took X-rays of his stomach and found a bunch of SMALL bladder stones that had to be removed with surgery. We asked MULTIPLE times if this was a safe surgery and if whiskey was going to die.

They ASSURED us that this was a safe surgery and he will be just fine. Well hours go by and they tell my sister they can come get him (hours later) and when she arrived they said whiskey wasn't coming out of Anastasia all the way and the next thing we knew they were performing CPR and unfortunately whiskey died. My personal opinion is that they gave him too much anesthesia because whiskey was NOT old and he didn't have other health problems. I beg of whoever plans to take there animal here to think really hard because id hate to see another person go through what my sister is right now.

In my 38 years of being a pet owner, pet caretaker, and pet adoption volunteer across this great country, I have rarely come across such an uncompassionate, rude and unhelpful veterinary service as Staunton River Veterinary Clinic. The level of poor demeanor and crass, sour attitude that was thrown at my husband over the phone this morning when he was calling to obtain information for in-home euthanasia services was beyond appalling.

I truly hope the person who answers the phone at the front desk is not a direct representation of the quality of care animals receive at this facility, or Dr.'s Carrier Turnbull or Jessica Stein. I also truly hope the person who answers the phone at the front desk finds love and compassion somewhere in the dark pits of their cold, dead heart, and finds a new job that is far, far away from the care of living beings. Having recently moved my family to Hardy, VA from Colorado, we have already acquired a wonderful local vet to offer superb care and service to our furry kiddos (2 dogs, 1 cat). However, our cat is nearing 19 years on this planet and has experienced a myriad of health complications over the past 6-9 months, with a rapid decline in the past month to weeks.

End of life management is always a difficult experience, and we strive to do everything in our ability, mentally, emotionally and financially, to provide the care and comfort that our pets deserve from adoption to end of life. That includes in-home euthanasia, in the comfort and familiar surrounding of their home, no matter the expense. Finding a veterinary service that offers in-home care in the Roanoke & Smith Mountain Lake area has proven to be extremely difficult for only God knows what reason or excuse.

My husband and I have spent hours calling local veterinarian services within a 50 mile radius, desperate to find someone who could be bothered (because apparently it is a bother) to provide a service such as this. SRV says on their mobile website that they offer in-home euthanasia, so we called to get information. What we got instead was an offensive attitude, a refusal to provide an advertised service for no viable reason, a lack of knowledge, and a refusal to provide any referral or additional help.

We now have a massive sour taste in our mouth and plan to escalate our complaints directly to the BBB, Virginia Board of Veterinary Medicine, and the American Veterinary Medical Association. The Dr.'s need to strongly consider evaluating their staff's relationship with the public and should also fire the person who worked the front desk shift on 4/19/22 at 8:30 am, for the sake of continued business sustainability. Those types of employees do serious damage to a business, and likely should not be trusted in an environment that provides care to living creatures.

Dr. Stein and her staff are exceptional healthcare providers. Each staff member showed us care and compassion. We had an emergency situation on our hands and these ladies didn't skip a beat to help us in any way possible. Thank you to all of you for your excellence in care and for the most compassion I have seen in any office in quite some time! You all should be proud of what you do to help our 4 legged babies!

The best vet experience for my fur baby! We saw an interested & caring vet who took lots of time to listen to my concerns, learn about my dog's history, and formulate a plan of action.

They were great! Really nice and good with Dempsey. She had lost 4 lbs since her last visit which she needed to. Lots of walks and playing fetch. No change in her diet. We left with 2 prescriptions for itching and infection from scratching and she got her rabies shot. Her scratching has already improved. So good visit

My wife and I use Staunton River Veterinary's mobile pet service. It is nice to have them come to my home for my pets needs. Their office is about 35 minutes one way from my home so this home service saves me time and gas. I also as needed travel to their office for services that cannot be performed on their mobile unit such as dental or surgical procedures. It is well worth the drive to know that my furry family will be taken care of caringly and professionally.

SRVC has been absolutely wonderful to my Allie and I for over 5 years now. They are thorough, understanding, compassionate, and fair. The business manager is easy to work with, the techs truly seem to love their jobs, and Dr. Jessica and Dr. Connie truly care about your fur baby. We love this place so much we cross county lines just to see them! Excellent place, wonderful people, fantastic communication - won't ever go anywhere else.

Dr Carrie and the staff at Staunton River Vet are the best! They love your 4 legged babies as if they were there own! Highly recommend. It's a 40 min drive each way from our house but Dr Carrie is the best and worth the drive. She also runs a mobile unit. Top notch operation!

The veterinarian and staff were so kind and compassionate in providing end of life care for our dear little Rumble. Even when my fiancé and I came back to receive his ashes, the staff member who brought them to us checked on us and extended their condolences, which we greatly appreciated. The level of care from the doctor and vet techs was truly wonderful and we plan to bring our cat Teddy here in the future for checkups etc. We’re truly thankful.

I was concerned when I heard my vet was retiring and sold business to Staunton River Vet. My dogs are my life and I set an appt due to issues with my old man(black one). Extremely pleased with first visit. Very impressed with staff, techs came out and keep me informed as to what was going on since it was taking a little more time than normal. That is a personal touch that means so much to concerned furparents. Got my big boy up and back to normal with a diagnosis I would have never seen coming. The personal touch was very impressive.

Thank you all for working in these crazy times and taking such good care of Baloo and Yeti for us yesterday. It’s not every day that you find yourself taking two injured dogs to the vet all in one morning. We are so thankful you all were there to help us.

We had to make the decision to put our Rusty down today. It was not an easy decision with that being said There are not enough words to express how thankful and appreciative we are for how patient and understanding the entire staff was with us. Not only did they care for our dog today but they really took our feelings into consideration.
