Old North End Vet Clinic Susan McMillan has been practicing veterinary medicine since 1997 when she graduated from University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. She spent five years in a tiny animal practice in Fairbanks, Alaska. Days were filled with surgery, medicine, dentals, ultrasounds, x-rays, lab work, lots of bush medicine advice by phone to customers living in bush villages with no road access to veterinary care, and emergencies kicked by moose and lots of porcupine quills.
Services
We are a small, neighborhood clinic. If you have been to our clinic, you have seen it all ~ one exam room, a lobby, an office, and a back room. We do not have a big staff and we do not have a lot of overhead. We work with our clients to find the best way to accomplish procedures when needed. Some pets and some clients require a full-service clinic, and we will help you find that clinic if our service is not best for you or your pets. We do lots of basic medicine, vaccines, preventative care, supportive care, education, and end of life care.
The Old North End Veterinary Clinic is a storefront veterinary clinic opened in 2006 to support the residents and pets in downtown Burlington. Our clinic provides basic services, medicine, vaccines, examinations, consultations, and end of life care. We have a small staff so you will always see either Dr. Liz Poulsen or Dr. Susan McMillan -- and Crystal will likely always be the person returning your calls and assisting with appointments. We are prepared for well and sick pet exams, geriatric consultations, health certificates for travel, and supportive care.
Our goal is to provide reliable, low pressure veterinary services to you and your pets in the comfort of your home. We serve Chittenden County and a bit beyond. Our clients prefer in-home care for a variety of reasons: pets who do not travel well, owners who do not travel well, too many pets to get to the vet, and busy lives where you'd just rather that we come to you.
I am not an expert. I have done the Grand Canyon Rim To Rim Extreme Day Hike, two times so far. Both were successful, fun, medically uneventful trips. In 2008, we hiked South Rim to North Rim, in 2011, north to south. The first trip included four hikers. The second trip was nine. My partner and I did the many logistics for the second trip.
Hospice care is the compassionate care of the terminally ill or dying. In veterinary medicine, the word "pawspice" was coined but I prefer to stay away from the term. Pawspice is too cute for me. This is a process that requires earnest and dignified discussion. As a house calls veterinary service, we frequently assist in the care of pets in their final days and hours.

The most caring veterinarian I've encountered. Maybe it's because Dr McMillan makes house calls through Vet to Pet for animals that can't do office visits, but I appreciate this office like no other. Helped my very difficult cat for years.

This clinic and the staff are the most compassionate and professional group of people. Dr. McMilan's approach to vet medicine is always in tune with the animals needs and the conversations are always open and informative. There is no doubt she has the best interest of the animal at heart. I've been working with this clinic for years and would never go anywhere else.

I had a visit from this vet a year and a half ago for my dog. When I didn't receive a bill in the mail afterwards I called to give my card info over the phone and thought everything was settled. I just received a bill in the mail for the visit from a year and a half ago that I already took care of over the phone. have tried calling but haven't been able to get ahold of anyone. Very frustrating experience :/

I have been taking my pets here for around 15 years and there is no one I trust more to care for my animals than ONE Vet Clinic. They are so practical with their care and keep costs low for their clients. They take time to listen and get to know their 4 legged patients well in order to provide them with the best care. Although they are not full service they have resources for their clients in case the animal needs more care than what they can provide at the Clinic.

I had Dr McMillan come to my house when it was time to say good bye to my dear sweet cat who was in active renal failure. It was a traumatic experience watching my sweet girl decline, but the support I was shown during the ordeal is something I will never forget. She went peacefully at home. Days later I received a card from them offering condolences with the most heartfelt and sincere message, and also a donation to the Humane Society was given in her name. No-frills, experienced, practical, compassionate, and kind.this is The Old North End Vet Clinic!

In the last 9 years i have moved many times with my dog and so i have seen a fair number of vets and Old North End is by far the absolute best. They are smart, kind, incredibly patient with both difficult animals and their difficult humans. They truly are passionate about what they do, they listen to the whole story and give exceptional care. & in addition to some of the best most considerate care we have had, they are non judgemental (i say this because when my dog was 5 i became a mom and then had a series of very challenging life events and my dog went from being my princess to it being hard to upkeep her as well as i should as a dog owner and they have never made me feel badly about that.only been suppprtive) respectful and affordable.

I really love this neighborhood oriented veterinarian! They really worked hard to accommodate my needs and the needs of my pet. They took a lot of time to make sure that my animal was well taken care of. I will definitely continue to use them for Primary Care of my four-legged family members!

The staff is very caring and knowledgeable. They want and will do what's best for your pet. Plus, they offer ideas and advice, if you can't afford a variety of services. This vet clinic offers services to low income pet caretakers (as if we could actually "own" our animals!). Outstanding people! They accept cash, checks and credit/debit cards. Note: they will pass along to you the credit card fee.

It's posted and they will tell you, too, before they swipe it. I've been to vets who are good with the animals and terrible with the people. I've also experienced service the other way. Here, everyone at the clinic is good with both the animals and people. I highly recommend them!

This is hands down the best vet in the area. I've never met a more caring and compassionate group. We recently had to put our beloved 17 year old cat Noonie to sleep. We had never used their services before and knew that we didn't want Noonie to have any stress on her final day so we opted to have a mobile service which they offer. Susan came to our home and explained every step before proceeding, never rushed us, and really let us know that it was time.

Her gentle nature with our old girl was truly a blessing. As awful as that day was Susan made it somehow easier for us. We will never forget the love that was shown to us on that day. We were using another vet in the area but have now brought our new pet friend Grady to the clinic and he was made to feel like a superstar. We will now be using ONE clinic for our pets from here on out.
