Dr. Miller was raised in Queens, New York. His family always shared a love for animals, and cats and dogs were always cherished companions in their household growing up. Dr. Miller received his doctorate of veterinary medicine from Cornell University in 1969 before going on to practice at Manhattan Vet and North Shore Animal Hospital. He very much enjoys meeting clients with their pets, and could never choose between cats and dogs; He loves both! Dr. Miller's wife is allergic to pets, so he doesn't have any of his own at home - which makes his time with your pets even more precious.

Update: Unfortunately, Dr. Miller, who was the most fantastic veterinarian, has retired. My cat last was seen by him 10 months ago, at this practice. My cat takes prescription medication, and this practice requires that animals be seen annually in order to receive prescriptions. Totally reasonable. Except that now that Dr. Miller has retired, the practice is refusing to approve refills for my cat - they are insisting we come in for our annual more than two months early.
That's absurd. Any doctor at my child's pediatricians office can approve refills for medication that he needs. Why another vet AT THE SAME PRACTICE is unable to do so is ridiculous. Previously, we had traveled all the way from Washington Heights to come here because of what a wonderful vet Dr. Miller was. I'll be switching practices now. Original Review: Dr. Miller is the best vet we have found for our cats.
We've been going to him since 2009, when I found him after moving to the upper east side. He's knowledgeable and he clearly loves animals. He's so good that I've continued to bring my cats to him even after moving to Washington Heights in 2013. He's helped my little cat with his crazy allergies and gut problems, as well as with his thyroid issues.
And when we needed to put my older cat down last year after a fight with jaw cancer, Dr. Miller was kind and gentle throughout the process. We really couldn't ask for a better vet.

I've had several horrific experiences here. Most recently, I showed up with my dog who I was concerned may have had an infection. I called beforehand to make sure I could go with my dog to the back room, especially since I was allowed to at my previous visit two months prior. They said absolutely. When I arrived, the vet asked to take the dog into the back and I very calmly asked if I could go with them.
She said no and again I asked, calmly, why not. I explained I am vaccinated, recovered several weeks prior from covid and was wearing a KN95. I even took a rapid test and had a picture of my results before going in. The vet began to YELL at me say that she was uncomfortable with me and that she refused to see me. She then started talking to the Vet Tech as if I wasn't standing there and told me I had to leave and that she was uncomfortable.
I literally just stood there in shock, I didn't even respond. The vet tech explained to me that they had several people out with covid and they can't risk letting me back with my dog. I was very confused and tried again explaining that all the steps I had taken to ensure their safety. They said absolutely no way I can go back. I gave them my dog because I really needed him to be seen.
They said they were going to run a quick test to check for the infection. 25 minutes passed and I saw people coming and going from the room my dog was in. I was so anxious the entire time because I had no idea what they were doing. It didn't help that the receptionists were very nasty in how they were speaking about the phone calls they were receiving after they hung up.
People were calling about getting tags and documents and they receptionists hung up the phone and began saying things like "well they'll have to wait, we're busy and they're not our priority right now." I felt bad for those calling who just wanted paperwork that was probably very late. Finally they just returned my dog to me and said everything was fine, it wasn't what I thought it was at all.
That was relief of course. Then I went to go pay and they said it was $280. I was shocked, a 25 minute visit. I had NO idea what they did in there so I asked. They then said, oh well we are running a PCR test that's over $100 to check for the infection. I was confused because the vet just told me it's absolutely not an infection. They then said I didn't have to run the test, they were just putting it on there.
I asked them to take it off. The visit still came to well over $100 because they did a whole check-up and physical that I had absolutely no idea about. They didn't share any information about my dog with me at all. No weight, no checkup details - nothing. I left horrified and told them I would never be returning. I have since been to another vet and let me tell you- it was a world of a difference. PLEASE - if you love your pet - DO NOT GO HERE.

Absolutely disgusting, horrible practice. The receptionist was rude and awful. I had brought my dog in and instead of professionally telling me they didn't accept walk-ins (which is fine), they yelled at me, berated and scolded me in front of everyone. "Yeah, you clearly haven't been here before." Horrific and terrible, considering my dog needed emergency care and i was already stressed, some hospitality goes a very long way. It was my first time but I Will never return just for the unprofessionalism at the front desk.

I used to like this vet until I had a bad experience. Firstly, there's a lack of continuity, I don't think we've seen the same vet there more than twice, but we kept going cause convenience of location and Saturday hours. However during Covid they became increasingly difficult to get ahold of, requiring you to enter times you were available for appointments on the website, but never answering their phone or responding to emails or online appointment requests.
Finally they literally completely abandoned us when my dog had a UTI. We called another vet in town and they squeezed us in same-day for it, so we've permanently switched to a different vet now because of poor service at Carnegie hill vet. Our new vet is great, we see the same doc every time, they have Saturday and emergency appointments - much better overall.

If you want to be ripped off at a minimum of $100 per visit come here. No matter what you come in for you will be charged an excessive amount of money for a minimal amount of work. A follow up shot for a vaccine I already paid for (which took less than 5 minutes) was $101. How is this reasonable in any way? Exploitative financial behavior

I have recently had 3 visits to this veterinarian. The first visit was scheduled for 9 AM. I arrived 5 minutes early. I was told that the doctor was running a little late. I understand things can happen during a commute so initially this was not a problem. I was told to wait outside due to COVID. I waited for almost 45 minutes without hearing anything from the clinic.
I called for an update and they told me they could not find her records even though I had sent and confirmed they had received the records prior to my visit. I re-sent the records. After waiting another 45 minutes, the doctor called me. She prescribed medication, but told me they could not get a urine sample that was needed for a full diagnoses. I took my cat in again several weeks later for a urine sample after I brought in a sample from home that they said they could not use.
My cat was at the office for 4 hours, but they were "unable to obtain a sample due to stress on the cat." When I came to pick up my cat, the carrier was covered in cat urine. This made me assume that they had left my cat in her carrier for 4 hours and made no attempt to get urine while she peed in her carrier. In my third visit, I took my cat in for vaccinations.
This time, I was able to enter the office. When I was with the doctor, they gave me generic advice about my cat and seemed fairly stand-offish to me. They told me a blood test was needed along with the scheduled vaccinations. I approved and did not realized how much the test would cost (the staff did not alert me of the cost). Upon leaving, I received a bill that was not itemized and was about twice what I was expecting to pay for the visit.
I followed up and received an itemized receipt. All costs were more expensive than I had payed with previous vets. I understand the Upper East Side has high rents and the vet needs to charge more, but the care I received did not justify the high prices. After three visits, I have left the office feeling confused, angry and frustrated with the care and service that my cat received.
I know that caring for animals is difficult, but the service I receive at a vet office should not make a situation with a sick animal any worse. I will be seeking out another vet in the future.

This place did not treat me well. I took my cat in with very specific issues - losing teeth and a bump on her tail - and I wanted some professional help. Dr. Hess did not tell me anything that I did not already know. She had a horrible attitude with me and didn't even give me any advice on the problems. When she told me what she found with her exam, she simply repeated the issues I brought my cat in for in the first place.
Any human being could have told me this information. I understand that more specific tests are needed, but I was still hoping for any kind of recommendations at all. Skip this place and try another vet who has more professional manner.

They make you wait outside with this super cold temperature, or they send you to the next door shop to wait out there. It's just not fair for the pets either for the owner of the pet. For the what for they have a lobby or chair inside? Besides I always got on time and they always make me wait. And how they treat my dog I even know, they don't allow you go with your pet.

We have been working with Carnegie Hill Veterinarians for three years after a fairly disappointing experience elsewhere. The vets and support staff at CV are a breath of fresh of air--helpful, responsive, practical and no nonsense. We've seen two of the vets, Drs Miller and Kovach, and both have been super thorough and very down to earth in their recommendations. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Didn't think my new pup would ever have to go for something besides regular check ups. But it happened. This my 1st pet. Only thing i can say is that they're a bit pricy, but i heard from other dog owners that comes with owning a pet. I did order the meds online. It was much cheaper than getting it from them. Same brands too. They're good at explaining things n his symptoms are almost completely gone. They really helped.

Brought my new kitten in for a checkup and then to be neutered. I can't say much about 1x1 time as we're in the time of Covid, but they were so great about calling me and walking me through every step of the way. I was amazed at how quickly he bounced back from surgery! Staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. I couldn't go in with him but I trusted them handing him over. I'm sure he's not looking forward to the next visit, but I am! Very happy.
