I highly recommend West Chelsea veterinary as the best in the business. I have been a client with several pets over 30 years and the service has always been gold standard. Dr Farber, the owner, treats my pets as if they were his own and I trust his judgement and advice. He never pushes any decisions on his clients, but gives you the facts in a compassionate manner. He saved my cat's life by suggesting surgery on her paw for a tumor which another vet at another hospital misdiagnosed. He and his staff are constantly aware of medical veterinary updates and keep clients updated with news letters. I highly recommend them!

I am so grateful that WCV was never closed throughout COVID and that my dog always had access to the care he needed (even when we couldn't come inside with him). I love that I can always reach a vet on the phone with any concerns, and get an appointment within a day when advised that he needs to be seen. All the staff treat my dog gently with love and patience, and I trust that he is getting the best, most compassionate care available.

Dr Gayer is the BEST!! We wouldn’t go anywhere else!! All the Vets , desk Staff and Vet techs are beyond compassionate and courteous!!! Best of the best! We have had 3 pets over the course of about 12 years ( 2 cats and a senior dog) . I have been to other Vets in my life and West Chelsea provides the most comprehensive care. I recommend them to everyone!

At West Chelsea Veterinary we have received the absolute best care for our dog. We've always been impressed by the professionalism and thoroughness of all of the doctors we've seen, especially Dr. Farber, who has gone out of his way to help ensure the health of our puppy. We would also like to give particular praise to Kat, the Vet's international travel specialist, who guided us through numerous complicated applications and procedures.

Incompetent employees! My cat has been a patient for a year there and although I initially loved WCVH they've unfortunately proven themselves to be grossly unprofessional. At our last visit the vet was supposed to email me recommendations for something and never did. My cat was given a steroid prescription with the WRONG NUMBER OF PILLS I had to call them and speak to multiple people to get them to realize they did the math wrong.
When I went to pick up the extra pill they had closed early?! Their voicemail and web hours list hours different from the paper sign on their door. This left my cat with no medication mid-taper from steroids which can be dangerous for the pet. Will not be coming here again!

The vet was fantastic but that front desk guy was terrible. I told him that I had an appointment at 10:30am during check-in and he told me to have a seat. After waiting almost half an hour I asked him again but he told me that my appointment on the system was 12:30am with an awful attitude. So unprofessional.

After trying to be patient and giving West Chelsea Veterinary the benefit of the doubt, I have to wholeheartedly agree with all of the negative reviews and details regarding this practice: 1) Extremely slow turnaround times for routine exams and tests. I was told that I would get test results in the next business day, but I am currently still waiting 10 days after a routine blood test, and 8 days after a fecal sample test.
In the past 10 days I have reached back out three times on different days, and each time they have said that they would call me back at a specified date, and each time they didn't. This becomes an even bigger problem if you're like me and scheduled an appointment due to worrying symptoms your pet had exhibited, and have no way of knowing if their health has gotten worse over this period of time or if they are currently suffering from a treatable disease or illness. 2) The front desk is agonizingly slow, from being seen 30+ minutes after scheduled appointments and waiting 30+ minutes after being seen by the vets to be discharged and billed.
Any request for updates has always been met with an unhelpful canned response. 3) Front desk etiquette is extremely lacking as in-office questions have been met with snubs and blank stares, phone calls are met with curt and short responses (on top of the 15m+ wait times I have experienced), and all with the demeanor that they are annoyed they have to speak to you.
The only time in which they have made an effort to sound courteous is when I explicitly say they are being unhelpful or rude. 4) The billing process feels very rushed and the front desk associate doesn't go over the details unless prompted. Even when asked line-by-line for information of what is being charged, there is very much a sense of urgency from the associate to provide a glossed over reply in order to receive payment as soon as possible.
This wouldn't be as frustrating, but as many reviewers have said, this practice is pricier than other veterinarians in the area, so you would hope to know there is someone you can trust that you can talk to to understand where that money is going. 5) The veterinarians and the assistants are all friendly and easy to work with, but on average have only spent about 3-5 minutes for each exam I have scheduled for my dog.
It wouldn't be so annoying, but when taken into account the 60-80m you end up spending at the office and the sub-par service provided by the front desk, it becomes confusing and frustrating exactly why you are paying so much. All in all, if you are the type of pet owner that is used to a more archaic veterinarian experience where they are inconsiderate of your time, money, and urgency of your pet's health, this place will suit you well. However, if you prefer a more customer-centric approach where you're happy to pay a premium for your pet's health so you don't have to worry about if an illness or ailment gets worse, there are thankfully many new, modern options being opened every day in NYC. Everybody's experience will vary, but I have found this to be my experience. Buyer beware.

The vets themselves seem to be great and quite thorough, but this place is really frustrating to deal with. The front desk staff are slow and not very professional - I've had to call multiple times for a script to be filled and they gave me incorrect information. They move super slowly for check-in and check-out. There's always a random "biohazard waste disposal" charge which I would HAPPILY throw away anything they actually need thrown away myself, at any trash bin on the corner or in my own apartment. An annual visit will run you at least $300 (~$120 for the vet's time [20 mins] and another $180 for the heartworm test) and that's without vaccines.

Expert vets who have seen it all and will always take your call within minutes. It's so nice knowing they're in the neighborhood and can handle anything whenever you need. They aren't open 24 hours but someone is always by the phones. A bit on the high end price wise but that's par for the course with vets. Nice waiting area and very kind receptionists who go above and beyond! My pup loves it here.

We made the painful decision of letting our baby Sly of 17 years go after a month of trying to hold back and keeping him alive knowing he is suffering from his arthritis. In the end, we did what has to be done . They walked us through the process and supported our decision .They provided us with a private room to grieve for our pet which is great because I cried and wailed like a little child. Yesterday, we picked up his cremains, and as I expected I cried in the reception area .They probably know I was hurting as they offered a box of tissue as soon as tears started flowing down my cheeks. In the end, we are satisfied with Dr. Magasweran and the staff that provided us with emotional support. Thank you.

I have been taking my dog to west chelsea now for 2 years. The Staff is Amazing and this is the only place Stan ( my pug ) has ever gone to that he is happy when he gets in the door. Other Vets he would be scared and not want to leave my side. Dr Gayer is the best and the rest of the staff is top notch and seriously I will never trust my dog with anyone else!
Dr Gayer is so great with Stan and she literally saved my lil guys life. She is amazing! 10 stars out of 5 she is that good!
