Services
Preventative medicine is the core of your pet's care. This includes physical exams, vaccinations, parasite prevention, spaying and neutering, good nutrition, behavior counseling and providing you with the information to help your pet live a long and healthy life. We are the first hospital in PA. to offer rattlesnake vaccine.
Vaccinating your pet against rabies not only protects them from an incurable disease, it's also required by law. The Mahoning Township Lions Club and Mahoning Valley Animal Hospital have been working together for years to provide a low-cost rabies vaccine clinic for residents. The club recently recognized the hospital's veterinarian, Dr. Mike Nelson, for his part in last year's wildly successful event.
Nutrition is an important part of your pet's life, so our goal is to customize a diet for your individual pet's needs, using the wellness and prescription foods offered by the following companies. We carry the following products which we recommend for year round protection against Heartworm, Fleas, Ticks, Lyme disease and Intestinal worms.

My father took his cat who is elderly to this veterinary practice with symptoms of weight loss, vomiting, sinus issues and lethargy. They first stated that they couldn't do a urinalysis on him claiming that his bladder was too small and expected my father to try to get one at home and bring it in, which is near impossible to do. Secondly, they diagnosed him with an upper respiratory infection and a small case of gingivitis and gave him some antibiotics then sent him on his way, without also scheduling a follow up.
The issue continued after this and when my father went to ask for another appointment they could not see him within a month's time regardless of the fact that this is an ongoing issue. My father came to visit me and brought his cat. I live out of state. His cat was still sick so I made an appointment at my vet where I live. My vet found a severe mouth infection with open wounds in the back of the mouth that went all the way to the bone.
They had to remove 4 teeth, do a deep gum cleaning and fully clean out his ears. He had to stay overnight on an antibiotic IV drip and fluids as the cat was also very dehydrated. I realize that your practice has really high ratings, but the amount of disregard they gave to my father's cat was glaringly apparent and we were told that if this infection had spread, it could have endangered my father's cat's life.
I just wanted to write this review to let others know of this awful experience that our family had at this practice and I am so thankful that my father decided to allow us to get a second opinion for his cat. Also, our vet was able to do a successful urinalysis without issue so I am unsure why they were unable to at this practice.

Came here on word of mouth, in 2018 when my husky Akasha was suffering with a growth on her side. We had been going to our previous vet, for roughly 8 months and for 8 months they told us it was a lipoma.nothing to worry about. Problem was, it started off as the size of an egg, and ended up being 12lbs of cancerous tumor Dr. Mike took off merely three weeks after meeting us.
Not only was he genuinely kind, and loving towards our pup he genuinely cared about our plight with the previous vet. Sadly, even with his miraculous intervention Akasha passed away a few months later. We're sure had we taken her to Dr Mike in the beginning it wouldn't have gotten to this point. We're thankful for his staffs kindness, the facilities impeccably clean rooms, and the love of everyone that got us through the euthanasia.
We continue on with our animal care here, and won't ever return to the previous vet. We simply adore Mahoning Valley Animal Hospital. They have seen 2 cats, and 3 dogs of ours. And each time they've proven even through covid, they're beyond professional. Thank you for this everyone at Mahoning Valley. We as a family love you all.

When our dog tore his nail and was bleeding we could not get in at the vet we had been seeing so we called and made him an appointment at Mahoning Valley. We were able to schedule relatively quick. The staff was very friendly and explained what they were going/did do as well as what may have caused the problem and the further testing that needed to be done.
